Welcome to the Raw Materials Wellness Blog.
My very first Kundalini Yoga class, Instructed by Pat Barone, RYT, KRI, and hosted @
Raw Materials Wellness & Learning Center...
I really did not know what to expect of our new yoga class. I've been thinking of one word or phrase to describe my first experience in this class. A spiritual connection.
I was a bit hesitant about the meditation part of this class. I wasn't sure if I could actually meditate while in a group setting. My typical form of meditation is during my alone time while connecting with nature. Much to my surprise, I was able to connect with my spiritual energy. I can only assume that this is what it was that I connected with, because I can't come up with any other alternative explanation for my experience...
I began this class at the end of a very busy Monday, when I was physically and mentally drained. Our instructor Pat talked us through a simple introductory meditation then through some light yoga poses. Her voice was monotone and rhythmic, as was her choice of background music, which allowed me to focus on her words, my body stretches and my breathing... Pat's breathing techniques helped bring me into a state of calmness. This state allowed me to feel my energy, so to speak. For those of you who need a more tangible description, I could feel my nervous system calmly buzzing from my feet on up toward my head. This energy became stuck in my throat, also know as the thymus gland and the 5th Chakra. I wasn't surprised my energy became stuck here, since this gland and chakra represents our ability to speak or be heard... I then felt a surge of energy moving up toward my head and a sensation of my body's energy and/or spirit lifting. It felt as if I was walking on air.
When the class completed, I took a walk with my husband Ed and our golden doodle Stella along downtown Lake Monona. We were able to have a conversation about a huge financial proposal I have tried to negotiate with him since mid 2010. (You would think one would give up on this proposal if it wasn't well received over a 4 year period, but not me).
We came to terms and an agreement on this proposal and continued our walk in what was now a collective calm state of being. I don't know what else I can contribute my experience and success of Ed's and my agreement, except to my very first Kundalini Yoga class and my
spiritual connection.
I hope you too will consider joining our Kundalini classes on any of our following days:
